India has agreed to continue providing technical and other assistance to Sri Lanka to strengthen efforts to control tuberculosis, following bilateral talks between the two countries’ health ministers.
Sri Lankan Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa met Indian Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda on Tuesday on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the WHO Regional Committee for South-East Asia in Dili, Timor-Leste.
During the meeting, Jayatissa expressed Sri Lanka’s appreciation for the assistance and friendship extended by India during difficult periods faced by the country.
The two ministers discussed Sri Lanka’s plans to strengthen its health sector, with particular attention to tuberculosis control.
Nadda agreed that India would continue providing technical and other support required to improve Sri Lanka’s TB control programme.
Discussions also focused on strengthening Sri Lanka’s primary healthcare network and improving the quality of services, particularly at the rural level.
The two sides agreed on the importance of expanding cooperation and sharing experiences between Sri Lanka and India to improve access to healthcare services in rural communities.
Health and Mass Media Ministry Secretary Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Deputy Director General of Health Services (Planning) Dr. S. Sridharan and officials representing both countries participated in the discussions. (Newswire)
