Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa provided evidence in Parliament today proving his claims that obtaining a police report requires certification from the chairman of the Civil Security Committee.
Addressing the House, Premadasa submitted recently received Police clearance letters of two individuals, which contained the authorization of the Civil Security Committee.
Citing Standing Order 91 ‘U’, which prohibits Members of Parliament from making allegations against fellow MPs or referring to their private affairs, he argued that recent remarks made about him in Parliament violated his privileges. While he was accused of presenting falsehoods, Premadasa insisted that he had only presented facts.
He emphasized that the requirement for a recommendation from the Public Security Committee or Civil Security Committee when applying for a police certificate is genuine and not fabricated.
Premadasa revealed that two letters had been sent to the Hakmana Police OIC, signed by Yasanta Ariyasena, chairman of the Public Security Committee of Grama Niladhari Division 280B Badabadda. He confirmed that these letters would be entered into the Hansard record, which would clarify the truth of the matter.
He further noted that the notice board at the Matara Police Station had previously listed a Civil Security Committee letter among the required documents for obtaining a police report. However, following his intervention in Parliament, that section was removed earlier today.
Premadasa stressed that he had exposed the real truth and expressed confidence that the public would recognize this reality. (Newswire)
