The Postmaster General, Ruwan Sathkumara, has revealed several instances of fraud and inefficiency within the postal service, stating that he has faced significant challenges due to such misconduct by officials.
Speaking at an event held at the Haputale Post Office to mark World Post Day, Sathkumara said millions of rupees had been fraudulently claimed as overtime payments without proper fingerprint records.
He further alleged that some employees claimed overtime pay for vehicle servicing, often listing more workers than necessary and inflating the hours worked.
The Postmaster General also criticized delays in mail delivery, citing a recent incident where a letter sent from Pilimathalawa to the Ministry of Higher Education in Colombo took nearly a month to reach its destination. (Newswire)
