
Former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella who is implicated in the alleged importation of substandard Immune Globulin vaccines has been further remanded.
Rambukwella has been further remanded until August 22 along with three (03) other suspects implicated in the case.
Meanwhile, former Secretary of the Health Ministry Janaka Chandragupta and the ministry’s former Additional Secretary Dr. Saman Ratnayake have been granted bail.
The orders were issued after the defendants were produced before the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court today (Aug 08).
Several Health Ministry officials, including Keheliya Rambukwella, were arrested and remanded after the Criminal Investigations Department launched an investigation into allegations that a pharmaceutical company had imported 22,500 vials of substandard Immune Globulin vaccines by creating forged documents with the assistance of the two senior state officials.
Investigations revealed that financial fraud of Rs. 130 million had occurred via the imports of the said substandard medicine, under the tenure of Keheliya Rambukwella as Health Minister. (Newswire)
