The Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) says two officials of the Construction Industry Development Authority (CIDA) have apologised over their conduct during a parliamentary committee meeting, with the apologies being accepted following a review by the Committee on Ethics and Privileges.
In a statement, COPE said concerns had arisen regarding the conduct of two members of CIDA’s Board of Directors during a meeting held on October 8, 2025, which examined the Authority’s audited annual reports for 2022 and 2023 and its current performance.
According to COPE, one official attended the meeting in a manner that did not comply with the prescribed dress code applicable to appearances before parliamentary committees. The Committee also noted that both officials had left the proceedings without obtaining prior permission from the Chair.
Following a question of privilege raised by the COPE Chair, the two officials appeared before the Committee on Ethics and Privileges on February 17, 2026, in connection with allegations of contempt of Parliament.
COPE said the officials tendered their sincere apologies during the proceedings, acknowledging the seriousness of their actions.
The Committee on Ethics and Privileges, together with the COPE Chair, subsequently accepted the apologies, noting that the officials had demonstrated an understanding of the importance of respecting the authority, dignity and procedures of parliamentary committees.
COPE further emphasised that all individuals appearing before parliamentary committees are expected to maintain the highest standards of conduct and comply with parliamentary procedures at all times. (Newswire)
