A 46-year-old woman was critically injured after being shot at her home in the Wellawa area of Kurunegala on Tuesday (23), with police suspecting the attack was carried out by a man with whom she had previously been in a relationship.
According to the Police, the shooting occurred at around 6.45 a.m., and the injured woman was admitted to the Kurunegala Hospital for treatment.
Police investigations indicate the victim had previously lived with the suspect after returning from overseas. However, after leaving the country again and later returning to Sri Lanka, she had resumed living with her legally married husband, reportedly following a request from her children.
The shooting took place while the woman was at her husband’s residence.
Investigators believe the suspect had been hiding in a nearby wooded area before carrying out the attack.
