
Police Media Spokesperson ASP F. U. Wootler says foreigners must have valid driving permits or supporting documents to drive any vehicle in Sri Lanka.
He told the media that foreign nationals must either possess an International Driving Permit or hold a domestic driving licence from their home country and obtain a certificate or permit from the Department of Motor Traffic in Sri Lanka.
Highlighting a growing trend, he said it is illegal for tourists to drive trishaws in the country.
“We have witnessed tourists using trishaws, which is totally illegal. We have also taken legal action against the owners of these trishaws,” he added.
