Leaders and representatives of six Tamil-speaking political parties have requested a meeting with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to discuss matters of common concern affecting Tamil-speaking communities.
The representatives met on Friday at the Parliament Complex and reaffirmed their decision to work collectively on issues where common ground exists, while allowing each party to maintain its own political identity, policies and positions.
The six parties said their collaboration would focus on advancing the interests of Tamil-speaking communities through constructive engagement, while continuing to function independently.
Following the meeting, the representatives formally wrote to the President seeking discussions on several matters of national importance.
They also plan to meet the Opposition Leader and members of the diplomatic community after the meeting with the President to exchange views and continue efforts towards building consensus through democratic engagement.
The statement was issued by Parliamentarian Shanakiyan Rasamanickam, convenor of the group, on behalf of the six parties — the All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC), Ceylon Workers’ Congress (CWC), Democratic Tamil National Alliance (DTNA), Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK), Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC), and Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA).
