Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup clash against Pakistan due to injury, team sources confirmed.

Mendis had reportedly been cleared to play ahead of Sri Lanka’s previous match against New Zealand and featured in that game after passing a late fitness test. However, the injury concern appears to have resurfaced, ruling him out of the Pakistan fixture.

His absence will force Sri Lanka to make changes to their batting line-up, with Kamil Mishara expected to take over wicketkeeping duties.

Mendis is also likely to miss the upcoming T20 series against Afghanistan, pending further medical assessment.

With Sri Lanka already out of semi-final contention, the team may look to end their T20 World Cup campaign on a positive note despite the setback. (Newswire)
