Five suspects have been arrested in connection with motorcycle robberies and chain snatching in various parts of Sri Lanka, the Tambuttegama Police reported.
According to the Police, during a raid conducted in the Rajanganaya area yesterday, officers had arrested two suspects along with an unregistered motorcycle.
Investigations found that the suspects, aged 38 and 41 years, had stolen the motorcycle from the Wahalkada area and that it was a registered motorcycle. The number plates of the bike had been found hidden in a paddy field in Saliyapura.
Further investigations had found that the suspects had carried out three motorcycle robberies and four chain snatchings in the Anuradhapura, Galkulama, and Thalawa areas.
The Police had seized two stolen chains and 02 motorcycles, while four suspects who had aided in selling the stolen items were also taken into Police custody. The suspects are a 41-year-old woman and three men aged 25, 39, and 42 years.
The Police have also taken into custody a sword and a machete used by the suspects to scare victims. The Tambuttegama Police is conducting further investigations. (Newswire)
