A Special Investigations Unit, staffed by 16 police officers led by a chief inspector, was launched at the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) headquarters on September 18, 2025.
The unit will handle complaints related to foreign employment fraud and expedite their resolution.
Deputy Minister Arun Hemachandra said the move aims to protect citizens from scams and respond swiftly to grievances, especially given an increase in complaints over recent times.
He added that the government will consider amending the existing law or introducing a new one if necessary to strengthen regulation of the foreign employment sector. (Newswire)
