Sri Lanka Police have announced that strict legal measures will be taken against drivers operating vehicles fitted with modified silencers that produce excessive noise on public roads.

Head of the Traffic and Road Safety Range for the Sri Lanka Police, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) W.P.J. Senadheera stated that the Police will take into custody such vehicles.

He further said that drivers of such vehicles will also be subjected to drug tests in the future.

DIG Senadheera added that a report will be obtained from the Motor Traffic Department, after which a case will be filed at court.

“People are seen purchasing motorcycles for stunts and other activities, instead of personal use. Both motorcycles and three-wheelers are fixed with modified silencers and cause public nuisance, especially during festive season,” he said.

The move comes amid growing concerns over road safety and public disturbance caused by vehicles with altered exhaust systems.

Warning that strict action will be enforced in the future, DIG Senadheera that the IGP has instructed relevant officials to take the necessary steps in this regard. (Newswire)
