Deputy Inspector General of Traffic and Road Safety, D.P.G.J. Senadeera, says police officers have been deployed at fuel stations to manage traffic following the reintroduction of the QR code system for fuel distribution.
Speaking to the media, Senadeera noted that unnecessary public panic had led to congestion and long queues at fuel stations. To address this, police officers have been stationed at all major fuel outlets.
“The public need not panic. Once the QR code is in place, each vehicle category will receive the required amount of fuel. The large crowds at fuel stations are caused by unnecessary panic. We have deployed police officers to maintain order and manage traffic at these locations,” he said.
He added that if people remain calm, these problems will not arise. “There is no need to queue for more than you require. The system has been introduced to ensure efficient fuel distribution. People will receive the fuel they need at any fuel station. To minimise congestion, our traffic and police officers are actively managing the situation,” Senadeera said. (NewsWire)
