President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has issued an extraordinary gazette summoning the armed forces across the country to maintain public security, Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne informed Parliament today.
The directive, effective from Sept. 27, 2025, was made under the powers vested in the President by Section 12 of the Public Security Ordinance.
However, the practice of the President summoning the Tri-Forces to maintain public security through an Extraordinary Gazette notification has become a recurring procedure by successive governments. (Newswire)
