An event to hand over housing ownership to hill country plantation community will be held tomorrow (12) at the Bandarawela Public Grounds under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Under the fourth phase of the Indian-funded housing project for 10,000 houses, ownership of 2,000 houses will be awarded to beneficiaries during the event.

Implemented jointly by the Governments of Sri Lanka and India, the project aims to improve the living standards of the plantation community. It is intended not merely to provide housing, but also to empower plantation workers to become dignified citizens who contribute to the nation’s progress.

The initiative focuses on providing safe, environmentally friendly, and well-equipped housing facilities to improve the living conditions of the hill country plantation people. A special selection process has been adopted to ensure transparency in identifying beneficiaries.

Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure Development Samantha Vidyaratna, Deputy Minister Pradeep Sundaralingam, Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha, and several Indian government representatives are expected to attend the ceremony.
