A total of 33,572 dengue cases and 19 deaths have been reported across Sri Lanka so far this year, health authorities said.

8,321 dengue cases were reported in May alone, according to Community Health Specialist Dr Thushani Dabare, with the highest numbers recorded from the Colombo, Gampaha and Kurunegala districts.

She also noted that 72 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions have been identified as high-risk areas for dengue transmission, and nearly 50% of all reported dengue cases this year have been recorded from the Western Province, while the Southern Province accounts for 16%, and the Sabaragamuwa Province for 9% of infections.
