NPP councillor’s husband & son arrested with heroin

A principal of a primary school in the Eppawala area of Anuradhapura has been arrested with over one kilogram of heroin.

Police said the raid was conducted by the Anuradhapura Divisional Crime Investigation Unit based on information obtained from a 30-year-old suspect arrested a week ago in the Nallamudawa Road area of Eppawala.

During the raid, officers recovered 1 kilogram and 185 grams of heroin hidden behind a hotel owned by the suspect in the Adagala area, Eppawala.

In addition, police seized an electronic scale and a polythene sealing machine that had been thrown into a nearby tank, allegedly used for measuring and packing narcotics.

Police sources said the arrested principal’s wife is a member of the Peliyagoda Municipal Council representing the National People’s Power (NPP).

Investigations have also revealed that the suspect’s son was arrested a month ago with 25 grams of heroin.

Further investigations are being conducted by the Anuradhapura Divisional Crime Investigation Unit. (Newswire)
