The Police said that several tragic incidents, including road accidents and drownings, were reported across different parts of Sri Lanka on Wednesday (15).
A 17-year-old girl from Kithulgala died following a collision between a motorcycle and an Army cab in the Warakapola area. The incident occurred along the Alawwa–Ambepussa Road, leaving three others injured.
In Dickwella, a 51-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a bus carrying garment factory workers at Dewsirigama. The driver of the bus has been arrested.
Meanwhile, in Dombagahawela, a 31-year-old man died after his motorcycle collided with a tipper truck at the Pahatharawa junction. The driver of the truck was taken into custody.
In Polonnaruwa, one person was killed when two motorcycles collided on the Welikanda–Oneagama Road.
Police also reported two drowning incidents — one in Kalpitiya, where a 57-year-old man from Karapitiya, Galle drowned while swimming with friends during a leisure trip, and another in Tangalle, where a 59-year-old local drowned at the Tangalle Fisheries Harbour after falling into the water during a gathering.
Separately, a 36-year-old man from Kolonna died after being struck by a log while loading timber onto a truck, while a 63-year-old man who had been reported missing was found dead in a well in the Mawathagama area.
A 26-year-old man was also found dead inside a temporary lodge room in Balagalla, Divulapitiya. The cause of death is yet to be determined.
Police said further investigations into all incidents are underway. (Newswire)
