Minister reveals details of Rs. 700 million bribe offered to him

Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles has revealed that there were attempts to solicit a bribe of Rs. 700 million in order to prevent the extradition of Notorious underworld figure Nadun Chinthala Wickramaratne alias ‘Harak Kata’.

The minister made the revelation while addressing a conference of Senior Police officers in the Southern Province.

Minister Alles said that ‘Harak Kata’ who is in the custody of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) offered him Rs. 700 million, whole other underworld figures were willing to pay more to other senior officials to remove him from his ministerial portfolio.

The minister warned that action will be taken against Police officers who fail to comply or fail to take action against drug activities in their respective areas.

Pointing out incidents of Police officers being threatened by underworld figures to carry out drug operations, the minister urged the officers to use their authority to stop such threats and drug activities.

Assuring his fullest support for officers apprehending underworld criminals, minister Alles warned those who fail to act will be transferred.

Also addressing the event, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) in charge of the Western Province Deshabandu Tennakoon revealed there was a significant increase in drug activities due to police officers aiding underworld members. (NewsWire)
