The Police Constable attached to the Sooriyakanda Police Station, who was arrested following an alleged altercation involving National People’s Power (NPP) MP Shantha Pathma Kumara, is calling for an impartial investigation, claiming he has been left without an income and his family is struggling to survive.

He had filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission sub office in Ratnapura earlier today.

The Constable, who was released on bail and suspended from duty, revealed that he had recently undergone bypass surgery, financed through loans, and now faces severe financial hardship.

He supports a family of four, including two children preparing for the Grade 5 scholarship and G.C.E. Ordinary Level examinations, he said.

Speaking to media, the constable said he was performing his duties at the time of the incident and alleged that no action has been taken against the MP who he claims assaulted him. He is urging authorities to conduct a fair investigation and ensure justice is served.

“There has been no arrest of the MP. I was only doing my job, and now my family has no means to live,” he said.

Meanwhile the Constable’s wife, Pushpa Malakanthi alleged that her children have faced discrimination due to actions of the MP Pathma Kumara’s wife who also serves at the same school.

“The children refuse to go to school, because the MPs wife works at the Kalugala school. She posts various things on social media claiming that my children’s father has done wrong. I have proof that she has posted such things, teachers should not involve children in such things,” she said urging the school principal to look into the matter. (Newswire)
