The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to extend visas for foreigners unable to leave Sri Lanka due to the cancellation of flights as a result of the Middle East conflict, since February 28, 2026.
Under the decision, affected travellers will be granted a 14‑day visa extension free of charge. If cancellations continue, their visas will be extended for a further 14‑day period without fees.
The measure was introduced by the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, who emphasized the need to provide legal facilities for stranded passengers until alternative travel arrangements can be made.
This move ensures that foreigners impacted by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East can remain in Sri Lanka lawfully while awaiting new flight options. (Newswire)
