If Sri Lanka playing Semifinal : New ICC decision

Sri Lanka could play a T20 World Cup semi-final at home in Colombo if they qualify for the last four and Pakistan fail to advance, according to a report by ESPNcricinfo.

In what appears to be a tweak to the International Cricket Council’s original schedule announcement and tournament playing conditions, the venue allocation for the semi-finals hinges on the qualification scenarios involving Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

Under the revised arrangement, Pakistan will play in semi-final 1 in Colombo on March 4 if they qualify for the knockout stage.

However, if Pakistan do not reach the semi-finals but Sri Lanka qualify — and are not drawn to face India — Sri Lanka will play semi-final 1 in Colombo.

If neither Pakistan nor Sri Lanka qualify, semi-final 1 will instead be staged in Kolkata, with semi-final 2 taking place in Mumbai.

India are set to play semi-final 2 in Mumbai unless they are drawn against Pakistan, in which case venue arrangements could differ, the report said.

The ICC has not yet issued a formal clarification on the reported adjustments. (Newswire)
