
Iran said it downed two US military aircraft on Friday, one in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province and another over the Gulf, according to Iranian state media and military statements.
Iranian authorities said the first aircraft was an F-15E Strike Eagle carrying two crew members. One crew member was rescued, while the other remains missing, according to reports.
US media, citing officials, reported that two US Black Hawk helicopters deployed for a search-and-rescue mission were hit during the operation but were able to return safely to their bases.
Iran also said a second aircraft, identified as an A-10 Warthog, was shot down. US media reported, citing officials, that the lone pilot of the aircraft was rescued.
Iran’s military said a “new advanced” air defense system was used to down the fighter jet, adding that the incident demonstrates Iran’s continued capability to engage US military forces.
Iranian state television also announced a reward for anyone who captures the US pilots alive, according to reports.
The White House confirmed that US President Donald Trump has been briefed on the developments. No further official details were immediately released by US authorities. (Newswire)
