Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to reduce fuel consumption and cut non-essential spending amid the ongoing global energy crisis linked to tensions in West Asia.
Speaking at a public event in Hyderabad, Modi called on people to rely more on public transport, car-pooling, and electric vehicles, while also encouraging companies to revive work-from-home arrangements where possible.
The Indian Prime Minister also appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary foreign travel, overseas weddings, and non-essential gold purchases in an effort to conserve foreign exchange reserves during the economic uncertainty caused by rising global oil prices.
In addition, Modi urged Indian farmers to reduce the use of chemical fertilisers by 50% and move towards more natural farming practices.
The remarks come as India faces mounting pressure from the global energy crisis and supply chain disruptions stemming from instability in the Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz. (Newswire)
