Sri Lanka has formally issued the Final Assignment Notice (NoA) for the upcoming 2025 5G spectrum auction, marking a key step toward expanding the country’s digital infrastructure.

The announcement was made during a special media briefing at the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) on Friday. Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne, Acting Secretary of the Digital Economy Ministry and Chairman of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) Waruna Sri Dhanapala, TRCSL Director General Air Vice Marshal (Retd.) Bandula Herath, Chairman of the 5G Auction Committee and Finance Ministry Director General Dr. Sulakshana Jayawardena, and TRCSL Director Shantha Gunanandana attended the event.

Weeraratne said the final allocation of spectrum would provide a strong foundation to broaden next-generation telecommunications services, positioning 5G technology as a driver of economic growth, innovation, and industrial development.

He added that high-speed, low-latency internet and advanced digital infrastructure could transform multiple sectors, including healthcare, education, agriculture, and apparel manufacturing. For instance, smart sensors in agriculture could boost yields and reduce resource waste, while automation in manufacturing could enhance quality and productivity.

The government expects the auction to accelerate Sri Lanka’s digital transformation and strengthen the country’s competitiveness in the global economy. (Newswire)
