The newly appointed Chairperson and members of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) formally assumed duties on November 02, 2026.
According to the HRCSL, retired Supreme Court Judge Justice V. K. Malalgoda assumed duties as the new Chairperson of the Commission.
The appointment was made by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake upon the recommendation of the Constitutional Council.
The four other newly appointed members of the Commission are S. Y. M. Gomez, A. L. A. Azeez, S. S. S. B. D. H. Jayawardena and Professor T. Jayasingam.
The HRCSL stated that the new appointments were made to fill vacancies created following the completion of the terms of office of the previous Chairperson and members of the Commission. (Newswire)
