Speaking to CricWire, former captain Sanath Jayasuriya said that he believes Jaffna and Galle teams are the favorites in this year’s Lanka Premier League (LPL) tournament.
Jayasuriya went on to say that it is heartening to see a local entity owning the Colombo Stars team and we can witness a very competitive tournament if Angelo Mathews can become fit and available to play for Colombo.
Sanath also commented on some of the senior Cricketers who missed out on the player draft and later added to the squad.
“These are senior cricketers who underwent a lean patch. Now it’s their opportunity to build their reputation back. Only they themselves have to do it” Sanath said.
When quizzed about the composition of Kandy warriors who are lead by Angelo Perera, Jayasuriya said that it is a good opportunity for the young players.
Jayasuriya also shared his views on the return of the 3 suspended cricketers to action in the LPL.
“They have undergone a very bad patch after the incident, especially drawing a lot of criticism from social media and mainstream media. They have nothing to lose now. It’s their time to lift themselves up, by performing as cricketers and not resorting to vengeance against anyone” He said.
The Lanka Premier League T20 tournament starts tomorrow (5th) with Galle Gladiator taking on Jaffna Kings in the first match.
