The United National Party (UNP) has announced that it will participate in the All-Party Conference scheduled for tomorrow (23).

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has called for an All-Party Conference to discuss measures to address the various issues faced by Sri Lanka at present.

The UNP is the only other party alongside the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) that has announced it will attend the conference.

The opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), National Freedom Front (NFF), Pivithuru Hella Urumaya, and Government-affiliated Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) have all said they will boycott the conference.

Commenting on the conference, UNP Assistant Leader Akila Viraj Kariyawasam confirmed that party Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe will participate in the All Party Conference (APC).

He said the UNP had decided that the party leader should attend the conference as it is a forum to resolve the crisis that the country is facing today.

“Also we might be blamed for missing an opportunity to put a collective effort to pull the nation through from the crisis,” he added.

Kariyawasam further said it is time to forget party differences and get together and establish a common forum to resolve the burning issues of the country. (NewsWire)
