Sri Lanka is currently in such a serious crisis due to the actions of the Rajapaksa regime, former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga said today.

The Ex-President said not only the Rajapaksas, but the government representatives around them, their friends, and associates are also to be blamed for the current crisis.

“Those who ruled the country after 2005 thought they own the country and its assets and that they can act in any manner they want. They thought they can get away with any and every dirty work they do. If anyone raised objections they were killed,” she said.

The former President further said that the only way forward is for those who want to work for the benefit of the nation to join hands irrespective of party differences and introduce a new system to revive the nation.

Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga made the observation while attending the opening of the new office of the ‘Nawa Lanka Freedom Party’ in Battaramulla today.

The Nawa Lanka Freedom Party is to be led by MP Kumara Welgama, supported by Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga. (NewsWire)
