The Ministry of Trade, Commerce, and Food Security has decided to permit the importation of wheat flour through open accounts with effect from today (28).
The Ministry said that wheat flour will be allowed to be imported via open accounts until 31st December 2022.
The decision has been taken with an aim to reduce the price of bread and other bakery products and to control the price of wheat flour, the Ministry added.
The announcement was made during a meeting between Minister Nalin Fernando and the representatives of the Essential Food Commodities Importers and Traders Association at the Ministry of Trade earlier today.
The meeting was held to discuss the possibility of providing essential items at a lower price to the public during the upcoming festive season. (NewsWire)
