Over 1400 vehicle robberies reported so far in 2022

A significant increase has been reported in the robberies of vehicles across Sri Lanka, Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said.

SSP Thalduwa said that in 2022, a total of 1406 vehicles have been stolen as of 30th September 2022.

However, only 1405 vehicle robberies had been reported for the whole of last year (2021).

The stolen vehicles include 12 buses, 25 vans, 16 lorries, 14 cars, 311 three-wheelers, 1116 motorcycles, and 12 other types of vehicles, he said.

SSP Nihal Thalduwa said it has been found that among the stolen vehicles, many had been parked in unsafe locations. 

The Police have requested motorists to remain vigilant of vehicle thefts and to ensure to park their vehicles in safe locations. (NewsWire)
