Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya on Tuesday (26) declared open a newly-equipped High Definition (HD) television studio at the University of Vocational Technology (UoVT) in Ratmalana, aimed at enhancing practical training opportunities for students.
The new studio, fitted with modern technical equipment, was established as part of the university’s media complex to support hands-on learning for students pursuing media and technology-related studies.
Several new affiliated centres were also opened during the event, including a broadcasting studio with facilities for a web radio channel, an artificial intelligence (AI) research laboratory and a centre focused on gender, equity and equality.
The Prime Minister also officially launched the university’s “UoVT Greening Policy”, which aims to ensure all future construction and development activities within the university are carried out based on environmentally sustainable concepts.
The initiative seeks to transform the institution into a carbon-neutral environmental unit by 2030 while encouraging vocational students to pursue green-sector employment opportunities.
In addition, laptops were donated to several schools affected by recent floods and other natural disasters to support the continuation of students’ education activities.
Deputy Minister of Vocational Education Nalin Hewage, Education Ministry Secretary Nalaka Kaluwewa and UoVT Vice Chancellor K.M.G. Prasanna Premadasa were among those who attended the event. (Newawire)
