Parliament today (09) approved a motion to refer a Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) report on alleged financial irregularities and fraud in the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) to the Attorney General for observations and any necessary legal action.
The report contains findings from COPA investigations conducted on 10 and 21 March 2025 during the First Session of the Tenth Parliament and was originally presented to Parliament on 25 July 2025 as Parliamentary Series No. 243.
Following the submission of observations by the Minister of Finance and the relevant subject minister, COPA reconsidered the report on 4 March 2026 and stressed the need for prompt legal action over the financial irregularities uncovered at the Department of Motor Traffic.
The committee unanimously decided to seek Parliament’s approval to refer the report to the Attorney General for further action.
Accordingly, Parliament approved the motion to forward the report to the Attorney General for observations and necessary legal measures.
According to Parliament, this is the first time a committee report previously tabled in Parliament has been referred to the Attorney General for observations and further legal action. (Newswire)
