
The distribution of land permits under the government’s large-scale programme to issue 10,000 land permits in Uva Province was successfully carried out, providing legal land ownership documents to residents of Bandarawela, Haputale, Haldummulla and Ella.
The programme, aimed at securing land rights for people in the Uva Province who have been occupying land without formal permits for a long period, is being implemented under the issuance of 10,731 land permits.
Jointly carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation and the Uva Provincial Land Commissioner’s Department, the programme saw land permits issued today at the Bandarawela Town Hall.
Under this initiative, 283 beneficiaries from the Bandarawela Divisional Secretariat area, 202 from Haputale, 138 from Haldummulla and 103 from Ella received land permits.
Authorities said such programmes play a key role in strengthening land ownership rights while also improving the social and economic stability of communities, contributing to the country’s long-term development goals.
The event was attended by members of the Maha Sangha, Uva Governor Kapila Jayasekara, Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure Samantha Vidyarathna, Deputy Minister of Lands Aravinda Senarath Witharana, Deputy Minister of Tourism Professor Ruwan Ranasinghe, Badulla District MPs Sudath Balagalla, Ravindra Bandara and Ambika Samuel, chairpersons of Ella, Bandarawela and Haldummulla local authorities, the Chief Secretary of the Uva Province, the Badulla District Secretary, the Uva Provincial Land Commissioner, senior government officials and a large number of beneficiaries.
