
Ven. Rambukkana Siddhartha Thera, a renowned Buddhist monk, lyricist and author who made a significant contribution to Sri Lankan song literature, has passed away at the age of 76.
The Thera died while receiving treatment at a hospital following an illness, according to reports.
He was known for writing a wide range of popular songs, including works rooted in Buddhist culture as well as songs exploring themes of love, nature, life and society.
Among his best-known Buddhist songs are “La Dalu Bopath,” “Budu Hamuduruwo Apiuth Dakinnethi” and “Budu Bana Ahuwā.”
The Thera received the Sarasaviya Award for the song “Pera Sansare,” written for the film “Sandakadapahana.”
Born on May 22, 1950, the Thera received his primary education at Morawaka Weliva Buddhist Mixed School before pursuing higher religious and academic education at Hettawala Pirivena in Galle and Papiliyana Sunethradevi Pirivena.
