A shipment of 38,000 metric tonnes of petroleum, including 20,000 MT of diesel and 18,000 MT of petrol, is scheduled to arrive in Colombo tomorrow (28), following high‑level discussions between Indian and Sri Lankan leaders.

According to the Indian Commission in Sri Lanka, on Tuesday (24), Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka.

A day earlier (23), Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar also spoke with Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath.

Lanka IOC had earlier secured fuel supplies for March from the Middle East and Singapore.

However, contracted suppliers invoked force majeure, citing supply disruptions and vessel unavailability due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

In response, Sri Lanka requested rescue supplies from India through the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL). The current shipment of 38,000 MT is part of this emergency support.

The Government of India, via Lanka IOC, has extended assistance to ensure continuity of fuel supply in Sri Lanka, helping the country navigate disruptions in global energy markets. (Newswire)
