Corruption : Indictments served on former Minister Lakshman Yapa

The Colombo High Court today served indictments on former minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena and former Board of Investment (BOI) official Jayantha Edirisinghe in connection with a case filed by the Bribery Commission.

The indictments have been served for allegedly causing over Rs. 1.7 million of losses to the government.

The case pertains to Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena’s tenure as Minister of Investment Promotion and Jayantha Edirisinghe’s tenure as the BOI Director General. 

It is reported that the alleged offence relates to the use of BOI funds for newspaper advertisements published in connection with the second anniversary of the inauguration of then-President Mahinda Rajapaksa in 2014. (Newswire)
