Kuwait has restricted the recruitment of domestic workers to 10 approved countries, with Sri Lanka among the nations permitted to continue sending workers to the Gulf state, according to international media reports.
The new regulations, introduced by Kuwait’s Public Authority for Manpower, are aimed at strengthening oversight of the domestic labour sector and improving recruitment procedures.
Under the revised policy, domestic workers can now be recruited only from:
Sri Lanka
India
Philippines
Nepal
Vietnam
Ethiopia
Eritrea
South Africa
Benin
Senegal (male workers only)
Reports indicate that recruitment from 27 other countries has been suspended under the new framework.
Kuwaiti authorities have said the measures are intended to improve regulation of the domestic labour sector, streamline recruitment processes and strengthen worker protection mechanisms.
Sri Lanka remains one of the key sources of domestic workers for Kuwait, with thousands of Sri Lankans employed in the country’s household service sector. (Newswire)
