Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Namal Karunaratne on Tuesday (14) inspected the construction of a large-scale poultry processing factory in Rideegama, Kurunegala, which is expected to create nearly 1,000 direct and indirect jobs once completed.
The 6.45 billion project, being developed in the Ambakote area of Rideegama, is scheduled for completion within one year.
The facility is being developed primarily to serve export markets and is expected to generate foreign exchange earnings while strengthening the international presence of Sri Lankan livestock products.
The factory will adopt internationally recognised food safety and quality management standards, including HACCP and ISO certification, with the aim of enhancing quality standards across Sri Lanka’s livestock production sector.
The project is being implemented by combining local entrepreneurship with modern technology.
Kurunegala District MP Geetha Herath, Rideegama Multi-Purpose Co-operative Society Chairman Sugath Gunaratne, Kosmo Feed Mills and Kosmo Group Chairman S.M. Arham, and Saruketha Constructions (Pvt.) Ltd. founder Dissanayake joined the Deputy Minister during the inspection. (Newswire)
