Water cuts likely due to dry conditions, Water Board warns

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board has warned that water supply restrictions may be imposed for several hours a day over the next two to three weeks due to prevailing dry and drought conditions.

Chairman Engineer Chandana Bandara told the media that while no cuts have yet been implemented, the current weather situation makes it difficult to provide uninterrupted water throughout the day.

He noted that production capacity at purification plants, including Ambatale, has not been affected so far. However, water supply to high-elevation areas has already dropped to low‑pressure levels.

Bandara said rainfall is expected in the coming days and urged the public to use the available water sparingly. He added that bowsers are currently being deployed to distribute water in areas receiving a low‑pressure supply. (Newswire)
