A fuel tanker carrying thousands of metric tons of fuel arrived in Sri Lanka this morning, with unloading scheduled to begin later in the day, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) said.

CPC Managing Director Mayura Neththikumarage said the vessel carries 18,000 metric tons of diesel, 17,000 metric tons of petrol and 3,000 metric tons of super diesel.

He said all fuel shipments ordered by the corporation are arriving as scheduled, and arrangements have been made to distribute fuel to filling stations across the country.

Neththikumarage said fuel orders have already been placed for hundreds of filling stations under CPC, Lanka IOC, Sinopec and other distributors, and deliveries have begun to ensure stocks are available nationwide.

“As of today, the CPC has received 1616 orders, Lanka IOC 204 orders, SINOPEC 247 orders,  and RM Parks 248 orders. We have checked and commenced the deliveries of the orders,” he said.

He added that steps have also been taken to supply fuel to bus depots to support public transport services, with fuel bowsers dispatched early this morning.

Meanwhile, the CPC Managing Director said technical teams are working to resolve issues faced by some motorists when registering for the Fuel QR system, adding that the problems are expected to be sorted out by today.

Neththikumarage also warned the public about fraudulent websites and accounts impersonating the official Fuel Pass platform in an attempt to collect personal data.

He urged the public to enter their details only through the official website, https://fuelpass.gov.lk, and not to share personal information on any other websites.

Authorities said scammers are attempting to collect personal data and use it to generate fuel QR codes under other names, which could prevent the rightful vehicle owner from registering.

The CPC urged the public to remain vigilant and use only verified official channels when registering for the government’s Fuel Pass system. (Newswire)
