Sri Lanka received US dollars 767.9 million in workers’ remittances in April 2026, according to the latest data released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).
The figure reflects a decline compared to the US dollars 814.8 million recorded in March 2026, but marks a notable increase from the US dollars 646.1 million received in April 2025.
Meanwhile, the CBSL said Sri Lanka’s gross official reserves were provisionally estimated at US dollars 6.759 billion as at the end of April 2026. The reserves include proceeds from the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) swap arrangement.
The Central Bank also noted that the Sri Lankan rupee had depreciated by 3.6 percent against the US dollar on a year-to-date basis as of 08 May 2026.
Tourist arrivals stood at 135,643 in April 2026, down from 183,979 arrivals recorded in March 2026 and 174,608 arrivals in April 2025.
In addition, the net supply by the CBSL to the domestic foreign exchange market, based on value date, amounted to US dollars 13 million in April 2026. (Newswire)
