The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has assured that there will be no fuel shortage in Sri Lanka due to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
CPC Chairman D. J. Rajakaruna said that fuel orders for a period of 2 months have already been secured.
“We have ordered fuel for two more months without any problems. Those orders have been confirmed. There will be no fuel shortage in Sri Lanka for any reason for two more months. Then the problem will be where we get our fuel from. Then we need to see if there is an impact of the war,” he said.
The CPC Chairman further warned that legal action will be taken against those who illegally accumulate fuel reserves, using the current situation.
“According to the reports we have, most of the 92 octane petrol is not imported from war zones. The fuel comes to us from Malaysia, Singapore, and India. There was only one, imported from Oman. Even if the Strait of Hormuz were closed, we wouldn’t have a problem. We are talking to the suppliers and confirming it. The diesel was purchased in full, so we get it as a finished product, but not from a war zone,” he added.
CPC Chairman D. J. Rajakaruna provided an update on the fuel stock while addressing the media yesterday. (Newswire)
