Trump says he will raise tariffs to 15% after Supreme Court ruling

U.S. President Donald Trump said Saturday that he will impose a 15% global tariff on all goods entering the United States, escalating his trade measures a day after the Supreme Court struck down his previous import tax policy.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump announced the higher levy, revising an earlier proposal to replace the invalidated tariffs with a 10% duty on all imports.

The move follows a ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court on Friday that found Trump had exceeded his legal authority in unilaterally imposing sweeping tariffs across the globe. The court’s decision dealt a significant setback to the president’s trade agenda.

Trump, who has frequently defended tariffs as a tool to protect American industries and reduce trade deficits, criticized the ruling and signaled he would pursue alternative measures to reinstate broad import taxes.

It was not immediately clear under what legal authority the new 15% tariff would be implemented, or when it would take effect. (Newswire)
