The Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority has announced that the import, storage, and sale of LED bulbs without proper standards has been banned, warning that legal action will be taken against individuals selling such products.
According to reports, the Authority stressed that it is mandatory to display the minimum energy performance label on the cover, wrapper, or box of LED bulbs.
The Authority further said that complaints have already been received from across the country regarding the sale of non‑standard bulbs, and raids will be conducted with offenders facing prosecution.
The measure is being enforced under the special Gazette notification No. 2177/3 dated May 28, 2020.
The Authority emphasized that the sale of LED bulbs of 60 watts or less without the minimum energy label is strictly prohibited.
It also urged the public to refrain from purchasing such bulbs, highlighting the importance of energy efficiency and consumer safety. (Newswire)
