Two close associates of fugitive underworld figure and major drug trafficker ‘Kudu Salindu’ have been arrested by officers of the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Strike Unit.
Police said the suspects — a woman from Kithulawa and a man from Galpatha — were taken into custody during separate raids.
The female suspect, identified as 36-year-old Pramitha Subhashini, alias Palathota Madhu, was found with 250 grams and 490 milligrams of crystal methamphetamine (“ice”) and 301 grams and 580 milligrams of heroin. Investigations revealed she had been packaging and distributing large quantities of drugs on behalf of Kudu Salindu.
Police added that she already faces two ongoing High Court cases for possessing large volumes of narcotics, while her husband is currently serving time for drug-related offences.
The second suspect, Lahiru Kumara, alias Chooti, aged 29, of Galpatha, was arrested while attempting to flee on a motorcycle disguised as a temple visitor. Officers recovered 25 grams and 740 milligrams of crystal meth and the motorcycle allegedly used for drug transport.
Police say Chooti is one of Kudu Salindu’s top distributors and is also facing two High Court cases for drug trafficking. His brother, too, is imprisoned on similar charges.
Preliminary questioning revealed that Kudu Salindu’s network had introduced a special red-skull-marked package to identify drugs circulated in defiance of the government’s ongoing “Evath Wenu” national anti-narcotics drive. (Newswire)
