Harsha de Silva says he entered politics with the vision of building a developed Sri Lanka and insists he will not join the Government despite ongoing speculation.
In a lengthy statement, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP said none of his family members were involved in politics and that his decision to enter public life was driven by a desire to see Sri Lanka become a developed nation one day.
Harsha de Silva said he does not make political decisions based on narrow political advantages and rejected claims that he was preparing to leave the opposition camp.
He said some groups appeared to be attempting to push him away from his camp, but stressed that would “never happen”, adding that his political journey would continue towards one day providing leadership to that camp.
The MP also launched a strong criticism of the Government, claiming it had “failed” and lacked a forward-looking economic vision.
He said the country could not be rebuilt through what he described as “closed and narrow ideas” that were not open to the world, adding that this would become clearer in the future.
Harsha de Silva further denied having any discussions about joining the Government and accused certain groups of attempting to create divisions within the SJB through such speculation.
He said he would intensify his political struggle against the Government in the future in pursuit of building an economically prosperous Sri Lanka, while also promoting a political culture that supports good decisions instead of opposing everything.
The MP also said he was ready to take on any major responsibility for the country when needed, stressing that “Sri Lanka needs a new era.” (Newswire)
