An unidentified projectile struck a passenger terminal at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday (Oct. 11), triggering a fire, according to the Saudi-led military coalition fighting Houthi rebels in Yemen.
The coalition said the projectile hit Terminal 4 at the airport, less than 24 hours after a deadly missile attack at the same facility killed at least 12 people and injured more than 300 others.
Coalition spokesperson Maj. Gen. Turki al-Malki also said Saudi air defenses had intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile near the airport.
The origin of the latest projectile and the extent of the damage were not immediately clear. No casualties from Sunday’s incident had been confirmed.
Saturday’s attack was the deadliest reported strike in a Gulf Arab country since the Iran war began in February. It forced the suspension of airport operations, with several international airlines canceling or diverting flights.
The attacks come amid escalating fighting between Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces and Iran-backed Houthi rebels.
The Houthis have renewed warnings to airlines and travelers against using Saudi airports and airspace, threatening further escalation unless Saudi military operations in Yemen cease. (Newswire)
